God be in my head,
and in my understanding;
God be in mine eyes,
and in my looking;
God be in my mouth,
and in my speaking;
God be in my heart,
and in my thinking;
God be at mine end,
and at my departing.

Collect of the Day: The Visitation of Mary
Father in heaven, by whose grace the mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Worth

From where comes our worth?  For those of you who prefer Rite I, from whence cometh our worth?
I think this is a fundamental question that so many, especially those in younger generations, have never asked themselves.  Even worse – they’ve never been told.  What defines us a human beings and grants us intrinsic value?  Because the question has been left unanswered and too often, unasked, we embark on a misguided voyage to find out for ourselves.  We look for our worth in the eyes of others.   We engage in …

Something bigger than ourselves…

If we’re honest, isn’t that what we long for?  To know there is something bigger, something larger than anything we’ve imagined?  What would it feel like to completely and honestly give yourself over to something that is larger than our imagination?  Come and see.  Worship at St Timothy’s this Sunday.  Come at 7:30 for a contemplative service in the chapel.  Kneel in a space built by the first members of St Timothy’s and pray in a language that is as old as our unique Anglican heritage.  Or come at 9:00 …

Rogation Day

Wednesday is the final Rogation Day of 2010.  Rogation Day? you ask.  No, it is not a day of prayers and supplications for the regrowth of hair (that’s Rogaine Day, and it’s not on the church kalendar).  Rogation Days are the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Ascension Day – the 40th day after Easter and it falls on a Thursday.  A quick definition from the Episcopal Dictionary of the Church –
Traditionally, these are the three days before Ascension Day on which the litany is sung (or recited) in procession …

Doomsday!

Have you heard that in the year 2012 the world’s gonna end?  As we have been told, the Mayan calendar ends in the year 2012.  Should we panic?  Oh, no.  I’ve got good news from the Prayer Book.  The world is not going to end in 2012.  But it might in 2013.  The 1928 Book of Common Prayer has a table with the date of Easter.  But alas, it ends in 2013!!!!

(Orthodox) Book of Common Prayer

Last week I stumbled upon Lancelot Andrewes Press and their Orthodox (Big O) version of the Book of Common Prayer.  I’m a collector of prayer books (little p) and one that is according Orthodox Catholic usage looked interesting.  It came in the mail Thursday and I’m impressed.  The Mass is a combo of traditional Anglo-Catholic elements (asperges, last Gospel) and the 1928 anaphora.  There are a couple of additions in the canon but by and large it is very familiar to those celebrating according to Rite One at least once …
